Tabata
Following closures due to Gateshead Council's Covid-19 response, we are introducing a phased reopening of leisure facilities. It has not yet been confirmed when this activity will restart. We will update the website with any changes so please check back regularly for updates. This class is not available
What does it involve?
Tabata is named after it's creator, Izumi Tabata, who discovered that working hard for 20 seconds and resting for 10 seconds is an effective way to achieve your fitness goals. Sessions last a bit longer than 30 seconds, though. They're an hour. During this time, our instructors will lead you through a combination of high-intensity aerobic and body weight exercises designed to kick your metabolism into overdrive. You'll be running, jumping, twisting and turning your way to a stronger, leaner, more flexible you. And you'll feel great for it.
Just four minutes of Tabata, four times a week, is equal to an hour of jogging or moderate cycling. Seems like a fair trade, right?
Is it for me?
Tabata is intense! It's a 'no pain, no gain' kind of activity, that's as challenging as it is rewarding. The 10 second rest intervals are fun, the 20 seconds of activity, however, are hard work. If you exercise regularly and enjoy pushing yourself to the limits in a group of like-minded people, Tabata is one of the best workouts you can experience.
